Baniyas: The Mass Executions

Between March 7 and 9, 2025, the city of Baniyas witnessed one of the most harrowing massacres of the post-Assad era. Armed groups and security elements carried out systematic, house-to-house raids targeting Alawite neighborhoods. Survivors recounted how men were identifying themselves before being executed on rooftops and in the streets. Documentary evidence, including the discovery of mass graves, confirms at least 260 martyrs, though local reports suggest the toll could be higher. The violence was preceded by sectarian incitement on religious platforms, deepening social divisions in the historically diverse coastal city.
